The United States announced it is expelling 12 Russian diplomats at the United Nations for “undiplomatic activities”, per the AP.
Merely four days ago, the United States expelled Russia’s second-ranking diplomat from Washington, DC.
The move was in retaliation for Russia removing the United States’ second-highest ranking diplomat from Russia earlier in February.
The diplomat who was expelled was Minister Counselor Sergey Trepelkov.
A US source told the Associated Press that the removal was “a direct response to the unprovoked Russian expulsion of our deputy chief of mission” in Moscow.
