Trump Announces End to Bombing of Houthis

President Trump has now reportedly announced the end of the U.S. bombing of Yemen after the Houthis allegedly agreed to stop attacking ships in the red sea area.

Trump claimed that the rebel group has now “capitulated” and no longer wishes to engage in conflict. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated, “We will stop the bombings.”

He described the situation as positive, noting that the Houthis had previously targeted numerous ships.

The U.S. began military actions against the Houthis on March 15, launching strikes that included cruise missiles from American warships and bomb drops from fighter jets operating off the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier.

These operations resulted in multiple casualties and were a direct response to the Houthis’ aggressive campaign against maritime vessels, during which they attacked over 100 ships, sinking two and killing four sailors.

Trump’s announcement follows a period of heightened tensions, particularly after the Houthis intensified their assaults on both military and civilian vessels amid the wider conflict involving Israel and Hamas.

Critics in Washington have raised concerns about the strategic effectiveness of the military response and the potential consequences for U.S. relations in the region.

Previously, both U.S. and allied forces, including Israel and Britain, had targeted Houthi positions, but the recent airstrikes were exclusively conducted by U.S. forces, marking the first such actions under Trump’s second term.

The decision to halt strikes comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the U.S. military’s role in the region and the broader implications for international security as negotitations with Iran over its nuclear program continue.
