Police in Minneapolis reportedly raided the apartment of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s son Tuesday night, seizing firearms and ammunition before arresting his 22-year-old roommate, Abdulrahman Abdi.
Law enforcement sources told Alpha News that officers executed a search warrant at the home of Omar’s son, Adnan. Authorities reportedly recovered guns and ammunition from the residence and took Abdi into custody.
Earlier that day, the Minneapolis Police Department said officers conducted a traffic stop involving Abdi and cited him for driving without a license and failing to provide proof of insurance.
Police told the Daily Mail that Abdi was initially released at the scene. However, while officers were preparing to impound the vehicle, they allegedly discovered a firearm inside.
Authorities later tracked Abdi to an address on Marquette Avenue, where officers said they arrested him “without incident.”
Abdi was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge before being released Wednesday night, according to jail records.
Court records reviewed by the Daily Mail show that Abdi has 10 previous convictions, most involving misdemeanor offenses.
Last year, Abdi was found to have been speeding and driving despite having his license revoked over a previous offense.
In 2024, he was convicted of a felony after officers reported seeing him travel at 108 mph in St. Paul.
A statement of probable cause said Abdi was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and speeding alongside a Dodge Durango during the incident.
Abdi pleaded guilty to fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and received a sentence of one day in the Dakota County Jail. A sentencing order also placed him on supervised probation for two years.
His other convictions date back to 2022 and include incidents involving excessive speeding, using a cellphone while driving and failing to provide proof of insurance.
The reported raid comes after Omar revealed last year that federal immigration agents stopped her son and questioned his citizenship.
Omar said Adnan was pulled over after stopping at a Target store and was released after presenting his U.S. passport.
“Yesterday, after he made a stop at Target, he did get pulled over by [ICE] agents, and once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go,” Omar told WCCO.
The Democratic congresswoman also claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents previously entered a mosque while her son and other individuals were praying. According to Omar, the agents left without making any arrests.
The latest incident began with the traffic stop involving Abdi and ultimately led investigators to the apartment he reportedly shared with Omar’s son.
Authorities seized firearms and ammunition during the search, according to Alpha News. Abdi was arrested on a weapons charge and later released from jail Wednesday night.
