President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he will issue a full and unconditional pardon for Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and his wife, Imelda, who were indicted last year on federal bribery and money-laundering charges. The move marks Trump’s latest intervention in high-profile legal cases he argues are politically motivated.
In a Truth Social post, Trump blasted Democrats for what he described as a coordinated effort to weaponize the justice system against anyone who stands in the way of their agenda.
He accused them of working to “attack, rob, lie, cheat, destroy, and decimate anyone who dares to oppose their Far Left Agenda — an Agenda that, if left unchecked, will obliterate our magnificent Country.”
Trump said those concerns drove his decision to pardon Cuellar, whom he referred to as a “beloved Texas Congressman.”
“Because of these facts, and others, I am hereby announcing my full and unconditional PARDON of beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar, and Imelda,” Trump wrote.
In a line characteristic of Trump’s blunt and showmanship-driven style, he added: “Henry, I don’t know you, but you can sleep well tonight — Your nightmare is finally over!”

Editor’s Note: The original subject line for this story, which was sent in an email, referred to Cuellar as a ‘fmr rep,’ in fact, he is a currently serving member of Congress. We regret the error.
