White House Press Secretary Welcomes Baby Girl, Steps Away Briefly from Podium

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that she has given birth to a baby girl, marking a personal milestone as she temporarily steps back from one of Washington’s most high-profile roles.

The newborn, named Vivania — or “Vivi” — arrived on May 1, according to Leavitt’s social media post. Sharing a photo of herself with her daughter, Leavitt described the baby as “perfect and healthy” and said the family is embracing what she called a “blissful newborn bubble.”

The announcement highlights a quieter, more personal side of public service, offering a moment of normalcy far removed from the daily tensions that often define political life. While Washington remains focused on policy debates and global challenges, moments like these underscore the reality that even those at the center of power have lives shaped by family and milestones at home.

Leavitt and her husband, Nicholas Riccio, are already parents to a young son, Nicholas — known as “Niko” — who was born in July 2024. According to her statement, he is “joyfully adjusting” to life with his new sister.

Leavitt is currently on maternity leave and is expected to return to the White House briefing room later this year, resuming her role speaking on behalf of the administration.
